(Clap) (3 second pause)

A: Hi my name is Aaron Acevedo and I am also a Sophomore here at Siena College. Thank you very much for the introduction. I am currently a Business Communications major, so what about you, what major are you studying Delenny?

D: I am currently a English Education major, I would love to be a first grade teacher so I’m working hard for that. But today as a part of our final assignment for our Linguistic Architecture: History of poetic forms, we will be discussing the poetic form spoken word and how it can be perceived in text and on stage. In this class we have been able to evaluate a lot of forms of poetry and deeper analyze their context and structure.

A: Oh, and if anyone is interested in seeing what we worked on in class specifically you can check out our medium post on Medium.com by searching for our names! For our radio show today we will also be addressing the spoken word form itself and the way our chosen poet has used it to perceive multiple different characteristics in poetry and address several different audiences.

D: It’s interesting to see how spoken word lyrics jump out of the page on stage, it’s almost like it’s coming to life.

A: Before we get into the poet and pieces we are going to be analyzing, I wanted to talk a bit about spoken word poetry and its background. (question tone)Isn’t this actually one of your favorite types of poetry delenny? If I’m not wrong..

D: Yes actually, I love spoken poetry because I feel like it is so powerful and even more powerful when it is aimed at a specific audience, you know. This form of poetry evolved and originated from the poetry of the Harlem Renaissance and blues in the 1960’s. It has actually been defined as poetry that is designed for performance.

A: Yeah I like that way of putting it because many artists who use this form of poetry also publish it on page but the genre has its roots for oral traditions and performance. The 20th century artist rethought the perspectives of art during this time and experimented with adding several types of media to this form. These pieces evolved and connected more with several audiences through live performances and overtime has adapted and changed to adhere more with the current world. (calm tone) This form has changed and will continue to change over the years, it is just so interesting how it continues to build huh…

D: Yeah and along with that the elements that this form builds on and includes makes it more appealing to the audiences. It can contain elements of rap, hip-hop, storytelling, theatre, jazz and so many more. I mean it’s such a broad form of poetry it can take off in so many different directions with so many purposes and messages. It’s amazing isn’t it aaron .
